Best power stations under $500 — ranked by current price and verified specs
Every station below is under $500 at its brand's own store today — at the
price the store actually charges (including on-page promo prices where we can
verify them), not the sticker that gets crossed out.
Ranking is the spec-value score — what a dollar buys in stored energy AND capability
(solar charging, inverter strength, ports, UPS; rubric under the table). Under
$500 the field is mostly sub-1kWh units, so check the capacity column against what
you actually need — our sizing pages convert Wh into hours for common uses.
Prices are today's price at each brand's official store, including on-page
promo prices where we can verify them (see methodology). The rated cycle-cost estimate =
price ÷ (capacity × manufacturer-rated cycles). Methodology.
The spec-value score compares current price with verified
published capabilities. It does not measure build quality, reliability, noise, software
quality, or customer support.
Weight the spec-value score your way
The table below ranks by our published rubric — 60 points for price
efficiency, 40 for capability. If your priorities differ (solar first? longevity
first?), set your own weights and the table re-ranks instantly, on your device,
over all 13 qualifying stations. Weights are relative — they're
normalized to a 100-point scale. Rated cycle-cost estimate is off by
default; raise it to rank by cost per kWh delivered over the battery's rated cycle
life. A station without a published cycle rating scores zero on this dimension
(its “—” in the cycle-cost column), the same way any unverified spec scores zero —
so weighting lifetime surfaces the stations whose cycle life we can actually
confirm, and never lets missing data outrank a verified rating.

How the spec-value score works (0–100, same rubric on every page):
up to 60 points for price efficiency — $0.30/Wh or better scores the full 60, $1.00/Wh
or worse scores 0, linear in between — plus up to 40 for verified capability:

(continuous watts per Wh of capacity: under 0.4 · under 0.9 · 0.9+; DC-only units 0),
ports up to 12 (2+ AC outlets 4 — a rated AC inverter earns this base credit when the
outlet count is unverified — 4+ outlets 6 · USB-C 3, +1 at 100W+ · 12V output 2), UPS 4,
expandable 2. A "—" means the manufacturer doesn't state it or we haven't verified it —
it scores zero rather than being guessed, so a missing spec is visible, never hidden.
